Daily Blog #3

Today during class, we all went down the Akahi in order to see if we could talk to the Director of Food Services, Mr. Gordon Morris, or to schedule an interview if he was busy. Luckily, he seemed more than happy to spend most of the period talking with us about ways to improve the dining hall. First, we told him about the project we're doing for physics and asked him what some problems he thought there were with Akahi. We talked to him about how the dining hall was really crowded and other problems as well. He agreed that he saw some of the same problems, and we talked more about solutions for them. Joe came up with the idea to use longer, rectangular tables, which would seat more students in a smaller area, thus making Akahi less crowded. Mr. Morris thought this was a great idea and said that he would check to see if the dining area was not at maximum capacity, and if it wasn't, he would try to replace some tables with the ones Joe had mentioned as soon as next week. Another idea that was brought up was to have students dump their liquids into bus bins near the accumulator and to lie their cups down flat so that trays could be placed on top of trays. This would lead to a more efficient cleaning up process. Mr. Morris said that they would try this tomorrow. We talked about some other issues as well, and all in all, this meeting was very productive. We got insight from him, and he got some insight from us as well. I think we're on the right track.
